Mini Cooper R50 One R52 CVT Automatic Transmission Control Module (TCU) 24607542409 - Used Original Parts

Diagnosis and Common Symptoms

From the M.S. Motor workshop, we see these ZF CVT VT1F transmission failures frequently. A faulty Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is a primary cause for erratic and unsafe vehicle behaviour. Diagnosis often begins with the dreaded "EP" (Emergency Program) light illuminating on the instrument cluster, accompanied by a complete loss of gear selection indication.

Common fault codes stored in the DME (Engine Control Unit) or the TCU itself include P0705, P0720, and P1777, pointing towards internal sensor failures, solenoid circuit malfunctions, or a complete communication breakdown over the CAN bus. Physical symptoms manifest as harsh gear engagement, a sensation of the transmission slipping, getting stuck in a single gear (limp mode), or a total refusal to engage Drive or Reverse.
