Mercedes-Benz C1100: Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
Mercedes C1100 is stored by the ESP and BAS control unit N47-5 when the left front wheel speed sensor L6/1 circuit is out of range or open. It usually points to the sensor itself, its wiring, or a corroded connector, most common at the wheel arch where the loom flexes with steering. It does not condemn the ABS pump.
Quick facts

- Serious
- Can you still drive?
- Short drives only, diagnose soon
- Applies to
- Mercedes-Benz with ESP and BAS, W204 and W211 through W212 era. Exact chassis coverage not independently confirmed.
Also shown by some scanners as: C1100-001, C1100-002
Symptoms
- ABS, ESP and BAS warning lamps on together
- ESP and traction control disabled
- Speedometer may read erratically or drop out at low speed
- ABS does not engage on a hard stop
- Cruise control unavailable
Common causes, most likely first
- 1
Failed left front wheel speed sensor
Most common cause
- 2
Damaged or chafed sensor wiring at the strut or wheel arch
Common where the loom flexes with steering
- 3
Corroded or water filled sensor connector
- 4
Debris or damage at the ABS reluctor ring or magnetic encoder in the wheel bearing
- 5
Low battery or charging voltage setting multiple chassis codes at once
- 6
ESP and BAS control unit internal fault
Least common, confirm sensor and wiring test good first

Frequently asked questions
Can I still drive with C1100 stored?
Normal hydraulic braking still works, but ABS, ESP and BAS are switched off, so the car can lock a wheel under hard braking and will not correct a skid. Drive gently, avoid rain and high speed, and get it checked before relying on the car. If the brake warning lamp is also on, stop and have it inspected.
Does C1100 always mean the wheel speed sensor is dead?
Not always. It means the sensor circuit is out of range or open, which can be the sensor itself, but wiring damage, a corroded connector, or even low battery voltage can trigger the same code. A proper diagnostic read is needed to confirm which one before replacing parts.
How do I fix a C1100 code?
A workshop should first check the wiring and connector at the left front wheel for damage or corrosion. If those test fine, the wheel speed sensor itself is usually replaced. In rarer cases the wheel bearing with integrated encoder ring or the ESP and BAS control unit is involved. WhatsApp us the code and car model for stock and today's price.
Which Mercedes models does C1100 apply to?
This code applies to Mercedes-Benz with ESP and BAS, mainly W204 and W211 through W212 era, though exact chassis coverage is not fully confirmed. Note that W211 cars with SBC brakes have a different brake architecture, so a C1100 on those should not be assumed to mean the same thing without confirming it came from the ESP and BAS unit.
