How do I know whether my W203 has the M111.955 or the M271?
W203 C200 Kompressor cars built up to August 2002 carry the M111.955; from May 2002 the 1.8 litre M271 came in, and the two overlapped for a few months. A mid 2002 car cannot be told by its year alone. Send us the chassis number and we confirm which engine it is.
Is the M111.955 the same as the M111 Kompressor in a W202 or an older SLK?
No. Those are the older generation (for example M111.944, M111.973, M111.975) with Bosch engine management, coils with plug leads and the bigger Eaton M62 supercharger with a clutch. The M111.955 is the EVO generation from 2000 onwards. Customers have bought the wrong one before, which is why we match by chassis number.
Does the engine come with the gearbox, ECU or wiring harness?
It is sold as the engine only, without gearbox. Your car keeps its own ECU, immobiliser and key set. If you need a gearbox or other parts, ask us when you enquire.
Is it worth repairing my M111 instead of replacing it?
On a W203 of this age the labour for a rebuild is usually more than the car justifies. Our practice is to replace the engine as a whole with a tested used original unit.
