Audi Q7 4L Headlight Range Control AFS Control Unit Module 4L0907357 - Used Original Parts

Diagnosis and Common Symptoms

From the workshop floor, failure of the AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) control unit on the Audi Q7 4L chassis is a common diagnostic challenge. The primary symptom reported by the driver is the persistent "Headlight Range Control Defective" warning light on the dashboard, often accompanied by a flashing AFS symbol.

Upon a diagnostic scan with VCDS or ODIS, you will typically find specific fault codes logged in address 55 - Headlight Range. Common codes pointing directly to a faulty module include:

• 01042 - Control Module; Not Coded
• 01539 - Headlights Not Adjusted
• 02233 - Left Headlight Power Output Stage (J667)
• 02234 - Right Headlight Power Output Stage (J668)
• 02629 - Sensor for Swivel Module Position; Left (or Right)

Functionally, you will observe the headlights defaulting to their lowest "safe" position to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic. The dynamic cornering lights will cease to operate, meaning the headlights will no longer swivel into turns. The initial startup "dance" or calibration sequence, where the headlights sweep up/down and left/right, will also be absent. This is a clear mechanical sign of a communication breakdown originating from the AFS control unit.
